Green Java Peacock

One of the great things about the Jurong Bird Park is their collection of Southeast Asian birds.  They dwell in a huge aviary with a central open area and a water feature, and with a daily thunder shower at noon.  The thunderstorm is broadcast over some loudspeakers, and sprinklers shower the birds and their visitors with a lot less rain than normally is distributed in a shower here.  I can take pictures in there for about ten minutes before my lense steams up from the ambient moisture (usually around the green magpie).

Here’s a picture of the male Green Java Peacock, probably the biggest pheasant around.  This guy was not shy (unlike the Silver Pheasant who never approaches the front of his enclosure), and enjoyed sunning himself on a branch.  If you look at the photo close up, by clicking on it, you might be able to see the bronze outlines around the green feathers on its back.  I think it’s this that makes me think it more glorious than its cousin, the regular blue peacock.
