Our neighbors: Red-breasted (Moustached) Parakeets
I didn’t take this picture: It’s by Lip Kee. But the bird is the same as the long-tailed parakeets I see in small flocks on my morning walks. Sometimes they’re roosting high up among some leafless branches, and the morning sun makes their little bellies glow pink and orange. But I never have the tripod and zoom lense with me on those occasions. So thanks, Lip!
One afternoon, walking home from work I saw one of these feeding another. The younger one (same size as the feeder) would squawk piteously, and its parent would extend its beak for the youngster to eat from. Nice premasticated fruit for a late adolescent – a child-rearing idea I gladly leave to the birds.
