Posted: Dec 20th, 2009 at 8:09 pm5When I was in Beijing last month, I was with a colleague who is British. Once during dinner in a nice restaurant I told this story as a joke, and he paused for a minute then said, “that is not very kind.” It was my turn to pause before I figured out how he understood the joke. There is a second meaning to this story: That restaurant is not a English word (it’s a dig at English cooking).
